He Will Not Divide Us
By Isaiah Carter
At the start of the new year, political unrest in the United States had reached a boiling point. The inauguration of Donald Trump on January 20th sparked a massive protest reaching from Los Angeles to London. In NYC the main headquarters for Trump's businesses, actor Shia LaBeouf along with his frequent collaborators Nastja Säde Rönkkö and Luke Turner launched a four year performance art campaign titled He Will Not Divide Us.
Located at the Museum of the Moving Image in Queens is the performance art piece. What one will discover by venturing to the location are two cameras which livestream for 24 hours and 7 days a week. The livestream was created as tool for resistance in the face of adversity. From it's launched this performance art piece has generated recognition for drawing large crowds and even solo visitors who have repeated the now iconic phrase.
Minor setbacks have taken place at the site with gathering of white supremacist and Trump supporters now visiting but as promised this performance art will continue to run for the duration of Trump's presidency. With daily chants of "He Will Not Divide Us", this generation will make their voices heard.
